Angela Wilks
Founder and Executive Director Reflections of a Reformed You was founded by Angela Wilks. Angela herself is a formerly incarcerated woman who served 10 years in prison. Three of her years served were under a mandatory state sentence. She also spent seven years in federal prison. During her time incarcerated Angela found herself being a caretaker, encourager, support system and champion to the women incarcerated alongside of her. In 2014, as she neared release, she promised that once she was able to, she would reach back to those incarcerated women and continue to be their supportive sister and do all that she could to help them while in prison, as well as, after they were also released. After getting out of prison she quickly learned that not only was it challenging for an incarcerated woman on the inside, but it could also be even more difficult for a formerly incarcerated woman on the outside. But, in spite of the challenges she personally faced, Angela held true to her promises and began to reach back. Angela has served incarcerated women in a great many ways. She has contacted the parole board on their behalf, providing food and hygiene boxes, distributed halfway house resources and helped women to reconnect to their families. She has purchased and given away post release clothing, helped connect women to lawyers and has even helped women get their stimulus checks. Angela also currently helps to facilitate a support group for over thirteen formerly incarcerated women. Using her own life experiences as a driving force, Angela incorporated Reflections of a Reformed You to help incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women become strong – productive citizens, regain their dignity, and become role models for the next generation of women so that they don’t end up in the system. Each year Reflections of a Reformed You is committed to providing supplies and activities for 100 incarcerated women and mentoring for 25 women after they are released from prison. After her release in 2015, Angela continued her education with a career in the mental health field. Angela graduated as a Medical Administrative Assistant and currently operates a mental & behavioral health facility with 200 or more individuals. |
